Catholic, Jewish and Protestant chaplains are on call. Please ask your nurse manager how to arrange for a chaplain visit. Your own chaplain is also welcome to visit you.
The majority of our physicians are community-based doctors who serve on our voluntary staff. Additionally, the hospital is staffed by full-time attending physicians across a range of specialties. These include:
PAs provide health care services under the supervision of our medical staff, including physical examination, ordering and interpreting tests, and assisting surgeons in the operating room. These professionals extend your physician’s ability to monitor your needs and progress.
NPs are advanced practice registered nurses who have completed graduate-level education. NPs treat a range of conditions through comprehensive history taking, physical examination, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, making diagnoses and prescribing select medications.
Huntington Hospital is a teaching site for SUNY Stony Brook and for the Hofstra–Northwell Health School of Medicine. You may be asked to allow a medical student to participate in your care. Your interaction with any student is entirely voluntary.
Residents are graduate physicians and surgeons who have completed their general medical training and are now receiving specialized training under the supervision of the hospital’s medical staff. Your attending physician will remain in charge of your care at all times.
Under the direction of Nursing Administration and our nurse managers, a registered nurse on each shift will be assigned to direct your care. He or she may be assisted by licensed practical nurses, nursing assistants, support care associates and unit secretaries.
As part of the routine monitoring of many hospitalized patients, blood is drawn by a trained phlebotomist and analyzed in the lab.
Physical therapists may visit you and begin simple exercises to improve or maintain your strength, coordination and flexibility necessary to perform basic functional tasks.
Respiratory therapists may give medication, supplemental oxygen, diagnostic tests or draw blood to improve your cardiopulmonary status.
These are individuals who may come to your hospital room to take X-rays, or you may be taken to the Radiology Department for specialized tests.
Social workers are assigned to each hospital unit. Call the Case Management Department to contact the social worker assigned to your unit.
This team consists of registered nurses and social workers who work with patients, families and the health care team to provide appropriate discharge planning, including help with placement outside of the home.
Technologists work in the laboratory and perform vital tests to help physicians in their diagnosis and treatment.
Pharmacists may visit with you to provide you information about your medications.
Dedicated volunteers add to the services provided by hospital employees and your physicians. They assist in many areas throughout the hospital.
